Coleman, Draper, Clothier and Boot Stores
Beaconsfield Historical Society
The Old Town of Beaconsfield used to have a wide variety of shops and we are fortunate to have the original fascia board of one, Coleman’s of 35 London End, in the Archive. The shop was located at the current site of Fired Earth. This sign, actually 14 feet long (or 4.3 metres in new money) was discovered at the back of the existing shop by Bill Prenn of Chalfont St Giles when the shop was taken over and was donated to the Society.
However, although we know the location of the original shop and even its’ owners since 1850, we can’t find any photographic evidence in the depths of our archives showing the shop front as it was originally. If you have or know someone who has a photograph then we’d like to obtain a copy for our files.
