Photocopy of a note found in a bottle at Hall Barn
Copy of an original note, discovered in a bottle, appearing to be from the builders who altered the dairy at Hall Barn in 1837 (after the original building was constructed in 1834). Gives the names of the craftsmen who worked on the building and the alterations, conducted after Sir Gore Ouseley purchased the estate in 1832. A second copy includes a typewritten note that the paper was “found sealed in an apothecary’s bottle secreted in a hole bored for the purpose in a roof timber of the Garden Room at Hall Barn during restoration work in 1986…The note was resealed in the bottle and returned to its place.”
