Beaconsfield Parish Magazine 1959; January - December
A bound version of the Magazine on local information, events and societies. January edition notes the removal of the horse trough in the Old town to storage, a council loan to the Beaconsfield Cricket club has been possible to allow purchase of the cricket grounds by the club. February notes the purchase by the Town Council of an extra sixteen and a half acres of Butler’s Court Land to the south of Grove Road for playing fields to add to the 22 acres owned already at Walkwood. Notes also ask for a by-pass road from the Pyebush roundabout in a westerly direction, the County Council are to add the suggestions to a highway improvement list. Bekonscot is to be able to use St Teresa’s church car park during summer months exiting beside the Town Hall. The Beaconsfield Film Society is formed showing films monthly at the Long room at the Old Rectory. March Beaconsfield District population numbers are now 9200. The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association trough presented to the council in 1913 is to retained opposite the White Hart. April edition pg. 60 details council tax changes due to the County Council no longer being required to finance the Urban District Council due to the Local Government Act 1958. June edition notes a detailed report about council work detailing maximum construction at Holtspur, new planned development at Wattleton Road, shops in Holtspur and next to the Post Office in the New Town. The new courts at the Oval are to go ahead and grass is to be put from there to Davenies Piece. including contains an article entitled Local Names and History on pp 93/94 with details of the families Rolfe, Lake, Hare, Child and Snapes. July notes pg. 107 a report on schools in the area including the delay in building a large secondary school in Aylesbury End. Note is also made of Rotax’s decision to move aircraft work away from their Maxwell Road factory built in 1941 during the war. It is hoped they will find other work for this site. September reports on the Beaconsfield Library pg. 134. Note is made of the surfacing of Gregories Road, redevelopment of an area of hutments in Holtspur, and provision of lights between White Hill and Wycombe to reduce car accidents. . November in Council Notes pp172/173 plans to build an automatic telephone exchange in Gregories Road; increase in number of tennis courts at The Oval from 2 to 6.
