Discovering Burnham Abbey
Article and black and white photograph. On holiday the writer found Burnham Abbey and arranged via writing to visit. the building 1 mile south of the village of Burnham. It was built in 1266. Aftrer the dissolution of the monastery most of the buildings were destroyed. The Chapter House and Cob Wall of 1266 survived but deteriorated until 1914. The Tithe Barn is part of a private residence. A manuscript The Thirteen Virtues of the Mass was found. The Abbey is now restored and run and occupied by The Foundress of the Society of Precious Blood an Anglican religious order. Two books written by Sister Jane Mary are on sale at the Abbey.
